In the future I am going to steer clear of CD-ROM instructional packages and stick with DVDs, CDs, and books.

But you have to be able install it before you can judge its fabulosity. Let me emphasize that this is not a review of the product itself. I finally just decided that it wasn't worth the continued hassle (besides, if the program won't load, it isn't of much use!), returned the item, and bought two other highly-rated beginning guitar DVD/book sets for less than the price of this single product. I also emailed, was asked when and where I bought the project, and what version it is, and was told that they would get back to me. I called eMedia for tech assistance, and after working through many telephone menu options was told to leave a message. I tried uninstalling it and re-installing it several times on three different computers (all PCs), and the same thing happened each time. The installation would appear to be completed, but when I tried to open the program I would get an error message and it would shut down. When I attempted to install the program from the CD-ROM, however, I was in for a surprise. I was quite excited when it arrived and couldn't wait to get started.

After looking carefully at all the different beginning guitar instruction books, DVDs, and software programs offered on Amazon, I finally selected this one as probably the most promising for a total novice guitar player like myself, despite what seemed to me to be the overly-slick advertising that promised the moon. I just want to post a word of warning about this product. I'm using this to grasp all the basics on my own, and plan on taking lessons in the next month or so as an advanced beginner player (once I finish all the eMedia lessons). However, if you want to be a serious player you'll need much more than just this software. Overall, if you are just wanting to learn for your own enjoyment and not be a serious player, this can easily be your sole source of education. Surprisingly the rock section was pretty fun and simple. I really like the blues section of the software, since that is what I most want to play.

I hardly recognize any of the songs at the end of the chapters either that it suggests you try to learn. I generally just run through it once and move on. When you don't know the song it sort of makes it feel like you're just practicing strumming patterns and chord changes. My only complaint is the majority of the songs are incredibly boring to play, especially at the beginning with all the folk songs (I'm not a fan of tom waitts or bob dylan). It's enabled me to go at my own fast pace as I grasp the basics of chords, strumming patterns and how they can be used in songs. I like having the video feature that shows you the material and allows you to play along with the "instructor". It teaches it in a way that you can grasp pretty quickly. This has been really helpful at getting me through the problem areas I have and now its become pretty easy. The reality is nothing can replace a good private instructor. I bought this guitar software with a bit higher hopes than I should have.

Some people might like the simplicity of this product, but I found it a big let down,Not enough songs, no full modern songs, no book

I also thought that it would have a download facility so that you could expand the song vocbulary. IT appears that if you want to learn the other techniques you have to invest in at least another 4 dvds and I dont think that this product is any where near the cost it should be.Too expensive for what it is. the style you would want to learn as a young person wanting to join a band are not even mentioned. It does have a metonome and chord finder but it seems to me that everything is based around acoustic guitar so techniques such as hammer ons, pulloffs, bends. It does do 70 songs, but they are all small simple songs like Frere Jacques (3 Times), drunken sailor, etc not what is advertised on box such as Rolling Stones, where you would expect songs like, satisfaction, paint it black.

My problem is that there is no book to accompany this dvd, but what is more upsetting is the fact that it advertise over 7o songs in tabulature form. don't get me wrong, you do need this knowledge and it is explained ok. Unfortuanatly all have found is the simple basics explained. I'm a beginner guitarist of a mere 2 months and bought this product hoping to learn more than I have taught myself from books and internet.
